Live from the Democratic Caucus in Longmont, Colorado
8:45p and we’re done.
8:40p we’re unanimous on going with Udall for senator.
8:30p we’re voting for our delegates who just had to give an extemporaneous campaign speech.
8:25p 32 for Obama, 17 for Clinton. 3 delegates for Obama, 1 for Clinton. Just a reminder, these are just people from my suburb. There are 10 other precincts voting at just this district. The numbers here are overwhelming compared to previous years.
8:15p Thankfully our discussion centers around strategy, not talent, promise, or ability. Who can win against McCain? Obama supporters believe his inspiration is the key to bringing in the swing votes, independents, and undecided Republicans. Clinton supporters believe it’s her network.
8:10p Obama supporters outnumber Clinton supporters 2 to 1 in our precinct.
7:55p our precinct (basically my neighborhood) has to elect delegates to go to the county caucus on 3/15. The county caucus elects delegates to the state caucus, and so on. Regardless of what our precinct decides, those delegates have the right to change their minds at the county caucus. Obvious question: why are we voting if it doesn’t mean anything?
(Lost my internet connection at this point; I’ll post again after I’m out.)
7:40p the statement for Clinton: “Hillary Clinton should be president because she knows how to work the system.”
Isn’t that system the problem that got us where we are today?
7:30p “If you’re a precinct leader and you have packet 208, please bring it back up. You have the wrong packet.”
overheard: “Anyone who thinks this is a one person one vote system is so naiive.”
